2. Data Collection on our Website (Hosting)

Our website is hosted by Ionos. The provider automatically collects and stores information in so-called server log files, which your browser automatically transmits to us (browser type, OS, referrer URL, IP address, time of request). This data is not combined with other data sources. The basis for data processing is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (legitimate interest in technical stability).

2.1 Website Analytics (Umami)

To understand how visitors interact with our website, we use Umami. Umami is a privacy-focused analytics tool that does not use cookies and does not collect any personal identifiable information (PII).

  • No Cookies: Umami does not store any information on your device.
  • Privacy by Design: All data is anonymized, and we cannot track individual users across different websites or days.
  • Legal Basis: Legitimate interest (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR) to improve our website experience.

3. Data Collection and Services in the App

3.1 Infrastructure, Telemetry & Development (Expo, Expo Insights, Expo Observe)

We develop, operate, and maintain Kitchen Converter using services provided by Expo (650 Industries, Inc., USA). Expo enables us to deliver over-the-air updates ("OTA Updates") and ensure standard technical functionality.

Additionally, we use Expo Insights and Expo Observe to collect anonymized telemetry data, usage statistics, performance metrics, and diagnostic crash logs for the app. Technical connection data (such as IP address, device type, and operating system) as well as anonymous interaction data may be processed in this context.

  • Processed Data: Pseudonymized or anonymized device identifiers, performance metrics, crash/diagnostic logs, usage event data.
  • Purpose: Delivering app updates, diagnosing bugs, optimizing performance, and improving the app experience.
  • Legal Basis: Legitimate interest (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR).

3.2 Analytics & Improvement (PostHog)

To identify errors and improve the app, we use PostHog (PostHog Inc., USA/UK).

  • Data processed: IP address (stored in anonymized form), device information, usage data.
  • Location & Security: We use the PostHog EU Cloud (Server location: Frankfurt, Germany). To the extent data is transferred to the USA, this is based on the EU Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (SCC).
  • Legal Basis: Legitimate interest (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR).

3.3 Purchases & Subscriptions (RevenueCat)

To manage, process, and validate in-app purchases (one-time payments) and subscriptions (e.g., weekly, monthly, or annual subscription plans), we use RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., USA).

  • Function: RevenueCat validates purchase receipts from the app stores (Apple App Store / Google Play Store) to check and grant your active purchase or subscription status inside the app.
  • Data processed: Pseudonymized App User ID, transaction history, product identifiers, subscription expiration dates. We do not have access to your credit card details or real name; payments are processed securely by Apple or Google.
  • Legal Basis: Performance of a contract (Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR) and legitimate interest (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR).

3.4 Advertising & Ad Networks (Google AdMob)

In Kitchen Converter, we may display advertisements provided by Google AdMob (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland / Google LLC, USA). AdMob allows us to serve ads (such as banner ads, interstitials, or rewarded videos) within the app.

  • Processed Data: Device advertising identifiers (such as Google Advertising ID on Android or IDFA on iOS, subject to user consent), IP address, device and OS specifications, location data, and ad interaction data.
  • Purpose & Consent (CMP / ATT): Depending on user settings and consent, personalized or non-personalized advertisements are displayed. For users in the European Union / EEA, consent is requested using a Consent Management Platform (such as Google UMP SDK). On iOS devices, tracking permission is requested via Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt.
  • Legal Basis: Consent (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR) for personalized advertising and reading advertising IDs; otherwise, legitimate interest (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR) to support and offer free versions of our app.

3.5 Data Processing in the App (Exclusively Local Processing)

In the Kitchen Converter app, all recipes, conversion inputs, custom ingredients, notes, and calculations remain stored exclusively on your local device (or within your personal cloud backups such as Apple iCloud or Google Drive if enabled by you) and are never transmitted to our servers.

4. Device Permissions

The app may request certain permissions (e.g., camera, notifications). You can revoke these permissions at any time in your operating system settings. Access is only used for the specific functionality within the app.

You have the right to request information about your stored personal data, its origin, recipients, and the purpose of data processing at any time without charge.
